Rooted in empathy and guided by respect for both people and the planet, we strive to create a space where love, memory, and meaning come together with grace.

Furever Peace is a locally-owned family business, opened by pet lovers to help other pet lovers through what is inevitably a very difficult time. David & Suzanne Shearer have been happily married for 27 years, living in Wilmington that whole time. Suzanne is the rare “true local,” having been born & raised here, while David joined our beautiful area at the age of 13 when his family moved from St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania. They have two amazing sons: Brendon, who lives in Wilmington, and Joshua, who’s attending college in Charlotte.

Neither owner has ever lived in a home without pets, including big dogs, little dogs, cats, birds, fish and a gecko. They currently reside with a Maltese-Shitzu named Buttercup, a tuxedo kitty named Felix and a leopard gecko named Rexie (Rex until we discovered our little reptile is a girl!). Their fur babies (and non-fur ones) are a bit spoiled rotten… they can’t imagine life without them. Unfortunately, that time will come for all pet owners and it is simply heart-wrenching.

When David learned of a gentle alternative to cremation, he immediately wanted to make it available to pet owners in our area. Suzanne was a bit hesitant, knowing she’d feel the pain of each and every client. But the thought of a process that does NOT involve fire, and does NOT harm the environment, was too amazing to pass up. David & Suzanne are excited to work together again, after running a successful business over 20 years ago.

Our biggest goal, by far, is to ease the pain of losing your beloved pet, and hopefully offer you a little peace in the process. We will strive to show care & true understanding to both you & your pet every step of the way. Thank you so much for considering Furever Peace.

How is aquamation different from cremation?
While traditional cremation uses intense flame and fossil fuels, aquamation is flameless and eco-friendly. It mimics natural decomposition through water and heat, resulting in a more sustainable and gentle process.

How long does the aquamation process take?
The process typically takes a few days from the time we receive your pet. We will keep you informed and let you know as soon as your pet’s ashes are ready to be returned.

Will I receive my pet’s ashes after aquamation?
Yes. After the aquamation process, the remaining bone material is carefully dried and reduced to ash, just like in flame cremation. These ashes are returned to you in a secure, private urn.

Is the process private?
Absolutely. Each pet is placed in their own container throughout the entire aquamation process to ensure you receive only your pet’s ashes—with no mixing.

Can you accommodate large pets?
Yes, we can perform aquamation for pets weighing up to 500 pounds. Every animal, no matter their size, is treated with the same level of care, respect, and dignity.

Do you offer pet pickup services?
Yes. We offer respectful, secure transportation of your pet from your home or veterinary clinic to our facility using a vehicle specially equipped for after-care transport.

What areas do you serve?
We currently provide transportation services within Wilmington, North Carolina and surrounding areas. If you’re outside this area, feel free to contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.

Is your transportation service available after hours or on weekends?
Please call us directly for availability outside of regular business hours. We strive to be here for you whenever you need us most.

Can I bring my pet to your facility myself?
Yes, if you feel comfortable doing so, you are welcome to bring your pet directly to us. We’re also happy to assist if transportation is too difficult during this time.

Why is aquamation considered better for the environment than cremation?
Aquamation uses water, not fire, to return your pet to their natural elements. Unlike flame cremation, it produces no harmful greenhouse gases, no smoke, and no airborne pollutants. It also uses about 90% less energy, making it a cleaner, more sustainable option for environmentally conscious pet parents.

Does aquamation use any harmful chemicals?
No. The process uses a natural alkali—potassium hydroxide, which is found in many everyday household products and even in the human body. Once the process is complete, the solution is completely neutralized, safe, and sterile.
